Who is the hero within? It is none other than ourselves having the courage to face our shadows and follow our destiny. It is not new or old. It has been part of us as since cultural records of humanity began. In times of old the heroes and heroines were of divine nature and had times of the year dedicated to them by the people.
The heroes of modern culture sometimes follow the same symbolical steps as the heroes of old but our society has lost the metaphysical dimension contained in the ancient mythology that guides the inner journey. The modern cultural hero is a superficial remnant of the past and reflects an inner state of emptiness in our society.
How can we discover the hero within ourselves today?
How can we continue a journey that we have already started? We are already on this journey, but we may be reluctant in recognising it.
The journey is always to face the unknown, to live up to the challenges that are within us. It is to activate our inner potential.
